Did you watch Gardeners’ World on BBC2 yesterday evening? If so, you will have seen Adam Frost interviewing His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Highgrove about plant health and biosecurity.
They discussed threats posts by pests and diseases to our native plants and how gardeners can do their bit to help by:
- Ensuring plants are bought from responsible retailers and
- Not bringing plants back into the UK from holiday, especially in Xylella fastidiosa outbreak zones (a list can be found on the DEFRA Plant Health Portal).
Xylella fastidiosa, is a very harmful bacterial plant disease that is killing plants in parts of Europe and America and for which there is no cure. High risk host plants include Lavender, Olive, Rosemary, Oleander, Polygala myrtifolia and Prunus. For more information, please visit www.hta.org.uk/xylella.
Bumbles would like to reassure all our customers that our suppliers are trusted growers and all plants are sourced responsibly from regions where the Xylella disease has not been found.
